Tim Lindholm, Board Member
Tim Lindholm is a software engineer at Google, working on improving the efficiency of Google's computing infrastructure.
Prior to Google, Tim was an original member of the Java technology project at Sun Microsystems and a key contributor to the Java programming language and runtime, both definition and implementation. As a Sun Distinguished Engineer, he was the Architect of the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) and co-author of the Java Virtual Machine Specification.
Outside of work Tim is a keen collector and researcher of daguerreotypes, images dating from the first two decades of photography. For him the detail and dimensionality of a fine daguerreotype create a window into the past, one of visual fidelity unlike anything that existed earlier and unequalled for generations afterward. His wife, Lucy Gaylord, is a successful painter and shares his interest in early photography.
Tim graduated from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, with a B.A. in Mathematics. Prior to joining Sun, he worked in runtime environment design and programming languages at Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Edinburgh, Quintus Corporation, and Xerox PARC.
