PTM Viewer Application : Download and Install instructions

The easiest way to view PTMs is by using the applet PTM viewer in a Java-enabled browser. Go to the CHI PTM galleries to use this method.

If you have difficulty viewing the galleries, you may want to try this method,of downloading the free PTM viewer from Hewlett Packard. This approach enables you to view PTMs locally on your computer when you are not connected to the internet. Afterthe HP viewer has been installed on your computer, you can download and view CHI PTM examples. ***Macs are currently Not supported.

01) goto: http://www.hpl.hp.com/research/ptm/downloads/agreement.html
02) Read the HP License Agreement. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
03) When at the bottom of the page click the “Accept” link at the bottom of the page.

04) You will be directed to a new page with the PTM Viewer Application offerings. Currently, the PTM Viewer application is available for three operating systems (Windows, Linux ix86, and HP-UX). Click on the operating system that applies to you. ***A Mac version is not available.
05) After the download is complete, simply unzip the file into a directory. Note that on Windows the glut32.dll file must be in the same directory as the ptmviewer.exe file, so if you move this file, make sure to move the dll also.
06) Download the CHI PTM examples you wish to view, and unzip each example.
07) View a PTM example by dragging the ptm file onto the PTM Viewer Application icon. Windows users may also create a shortcut on the desktop to the ptmviewer.exe file, and drop files onto the shortcut.
***NOTES *A Mac version of the PTM Viewer Application is not available. However, Mac users can view PTMs in the applet PTM viewer if you have MAC OS X.2 or higher and use the Safari browser

**Connection speeds of DSL or higher recommended for downloads.
