3D Acquisition Hardware
There are many commercial vendors of 3D acquisition hardware. A small sample is represented here.
  Contact Digitizers
    immersion.com (...)
The Microscribe is a desktop contact digitizer. 3d Cartesian (X,Y,Z) points can be captured and used to create 3D geometry.
    faro.com
Industrial strength digitizers aka Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM's). Some CMM's measure positions directly, others hold scanning devices enabling the scanning from a known position. Click on the link for "products" then "hardware"
  Laser Scanners
    cyberware.com
Cyberware scanners capture 3D position data through a triangulation based laser system and color information through a calibrated video image. A Cyberware scanner was used in the Digital Michelangelo Project
    arius3d.com
Arius 3D is a licensed spin-off of the National Resource Council of Canada. This scanner samples each point location with three different lasers, red, green, and blue. The returned information contains perfectly registered location and color. Objects to be scanned are shipped to the scanner's location.
    www.leica-geosystems.com
There are a number of phase and time of flight based systems that can capture very large numbers of locational point samples from large objects, buildings and sites. Color information is not directly captured in the systems. These scanners may be operated on location
  Structured Light Scanning Systems
    www.eyetronics.com
Eyetronics software extracts 3D locational point information from photographs of a grid projected on an object. The projector and the camera point at the subject from different angles. The camera records the deformation of the grid as it strikes the subject and the software uses this information to extract the shape of the subject. Color information is inherently registered to the locational information because the locational information is derived from the color photographic image. Eyetronics sells structured light scanners and software and operates a 3D model building service bureau serving the entertainment business.
    www.gom.com (...)
GOM makes the ATOS line of high end industrial structured light scanners using interferometry based software.
    capture3d.com (...)
This is a story about the use of interferometry based structured light to scan a recently recovered greek bronze sculpture.
    www.ict.usc.edu (...)
An excellent example of using structured light scanning for cultural heritage work done by a talented team including Philippe Martinez and Paul Debevec. Be sure to hit the included links, 'Digital reunification of the Parthenon and its Sculptures' and 'Assembling the Sculptures of the Parthenon'.
  Photogrammetry Based 3D Acquisition
    grai-imaging.com
Gary Robertson & Assoc. is a group experienced in photogrammetry and structured light imaging.

    shapecapture.com (...)
Gary Robertson's Shape Capture software is able to generate 3D geometry and registered texture maps using a broad range of passive photogrammetry techniques. The software also generates geometry through structured light projection. Shape Capture uses dense fields of projected dots, photographed from two camera positions to acquire textured 3D models.
    realviz.com (...)
Realviz's software Image Modeler uses photogrammetry to generate textured Geometry from photographs.

3D Software
  alias.com
Alias offers two excellent software packages for advanced 3D modeling and animation; Alias Studio and Maya.
  rhino3d.com
Rhino offers excellent parametric surface modeling and integration with 3D design and manufacturing tools.
  discreet.com (...)
3ds max is a popular tool for 3D modeling and animation.
  geomagic.com
Geomagic Studio converts acquired point cloud data into polygonal and parametric surface models.
  cmsc.org
The Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference, 'CMSC', is, in their own words, "a society of users, services and OEM manufacturers of close tolerance, industrial coordinate measurement systems, software and peripherals. These metrology systems include traditional CMM's, electronic theodolites, laser projection systems, laser trackers, laser radar, photogrammetry / videogrammetry systems, scanning devices, and articulating arms. The society assembles for the advancement in use or development of any measurement system or software that produces and uses three-dimensional coordinate data." the site contains much information about 3D acquisition hardware.
